A colleague of mine from grad school, Samantha Macher, once wrote a gorgeous play about two penguins on the tip of an iceberg drifting at sea. But who'dve thought a deeper look at this topic could lead to a PhD? Well Victor Benno Meyer-Rochow and Jozsef Gal's research project, "Pressures Produced When Penguins Pooh—Calculations on Avian Defaecation," have proven that the whimsical subject of penguin poop is, indeed, worthy of research.
